Why I Am on a Crusade for Competence...

The level of incompetence in America just awes me. It's no surprise Obama is president when the bar has been set so low.

Today I got a pair of sneakers I ordered in the mail - not only was the style incorrect (strike 1) but so was the size (strike 2) - well done Keds.

Keith ordered a Mitt Romney poster weeks ago and we just got it today (strike 1). Apparently someone along the way disappro
ved of Keith's purchase and smushed the poster tube and tore it so that the poster came all jacked up (strike 2).

I'd like to start a crusade for competence to be restored in America. This starts with all of us - no more half assing it - do everything you do to the best of your abilities and with attention to detail and expect everyone else to do the same - don't settle for less.

The above quote is from my facebook page a few days ago (as an FYI Keith is my husband).  After I posted it, I received seven likes and ten comments, which resulted in my starting this blog.  I'm absolutely appalled at the inability for people I deal with, on a daily basis, to do their jobs correctly.  My bar isn't set high at all, I just want things done right, I am not even asking for them to be done well, just correctly.

You would think asking someone to perform the service, of the business they are in, is relatively straight forward and easy but, apparently, it isn't.  This blog will service as a venting area for myself, and anyone else interested in sharing their daily stories of incompetence.  Yes - I know there is great service out there - and I hope I am someone who provides it to those with whom I interact.  That said this blog isn't about recognizing and rewarding good service, it's about calling out those who just aren't cutting it.

Today was no different in terms of my low expectations of society being met.

I went to my doctor who was awesome, but the elevator in her building was not reliable, which is not a pleasant feeling when you are heading to the 45th floor and get stuck on the 24th floor for more than 30 seconds with the elevator seemingly frozen.

I got an email from my doctor later in the day saying my prescription was called into a local Duane Reade.  Hours after that, I headed out to the Duane Reade only to find out that they had nothing regarding my prescription.  After the pharmacist called the doctor and found out what I needed, it was put together in about ten minutes.  That said, where was the snafu?  Did my doctor really not call in the prescription?  Perhaps.  Did Duane Reade receive it but misplace it or something to that sort?  Perhaps.  I'll never know.  But it was disappointing.

This evening a bunch of dry cleaning and tailoring was delivered to my apartment from Tower Cleaners which is literally across the street from my building.  They too failed at being competent when one of my dresses for alteration was missing from the returned clothes (despite the fact that it has a sticker on it that says Inspected by Tower Cleaners).  The ticket clearly is marked eight items with a massive eight and yet despite the fact it was supposedly 'inspected' I only received 7 items.  One of the items I did get back was a dress that they, for some reason, decided to remove the belt (it was sort of like a drawstring style) but they did not reinsert it.  Before you start writing in, how dare I complain about this while people are starving in _______ (starving country of the day) - realize what my blog is about.  I know I'm not saving lives here, I'm just trying to enhance the awareness of incompetence.  This is a great example of incompetence because now on Saturday I have to go back to the dry cleaner with a picture of my missing dress, all the clothing (to prove it isn't in that bunch) and the dress that needs to have the belt reinserted.  Not quite how I want to spend my Saturday, nor how I should spend my Saturday except for the fact that I paid very good money for my dress and for its alterations, and for my dress with its now removed belt to be dry cleaned.   It's just a quintessential example of someone not even doing their job right at the bare minimum.

Before I head off for the night I want this to be a blog by me but for you.  For you to vent about frustrations you have with incomptence whether it be a human or machine.  I have lots more fodder but I'll call it a day for now.

'Til tomorrow, I'll be on a crusade for competence.
